Teaching Social Studies
A site designed to help children continue learning at home
This site is a collection of web-based lessons created by elementary education majors at Buffalo State College for 4-6th graders staying home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope teachers and parents find these activities useful. New lessons are being uploaded every few days.

Who We Are
Students in Buffalo State’s Elementary Education program are engaged in an Applied Learning project to address the needs of students and parents learning at home. In April and May they are launching interactive online lessons for the 4th-6th graders with whom they would have been working this spring (before the COVID-19 pandemic). The interactive social studies lessons all focus on the 4th grade curriculum Revolutionary War period. Students are assigned to one of three “teams” responsible for uploading 5-week units: Team 1:Integrating Reading and Writing, Team 2: The Art of History, and Team 3: Interactive Mapping (GIS) in Social Studies. Two additional lessons were developed designed to help learn-at-home to deal with the daily stressors involved in remaining home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
